The video below shows an example of a modern style dispatcher panel, with block detection, in JMRI.
The example is two opposing freight trains passing each other. The layout is a loop with shared staging. Therefore, initially, both trains appear on each end of the panel. As the video progresses the coal drag proceeds east (to the left) and takes the siding to wait for the west bound train. After the coal train is in the siding, the dispatcher throws the turnout for the mainline. The west bound freight takes the main line and once it passes the coal train, the dispatcher throws the turnout for the siding and the coal train re-enters the main and continues its route.
